Artist's Statement
I believe art can be an important part of
life for both the artist and the viewer. It can be exciting,
puzzling, intriguing and controversial --- and it can also
relax, soothe, uplift and bring joy to our daily lives.
I find myself drawn to
vintage photographs. The subjects are often dressed in their
finest clothing, carefully posed to record their images for
future generations….."a moment captured in time". In my recent
mixed media works I emphasize a portion of the photograph,
seeking to capture a dramatic pose, a deep, moody look in the
eyes. It's said "the eyes are a window to the soul". Using
paint, charcoal, pencil, gel medium and sometimes collage, I
explore the uniqueness of each individual in what I term
"Neo-Vintage".
My series of architectural drawings depict
ancient European castles, monasteries and ruins. From the
subtlety of a castle in Scotland, to the ruins of a monastery in
England and the grandeur of "Benedictine Abbey" in Venice Italy,
each detail is meticulously drawn.
My watercolor and
acrylic landscapes range from a realistic, peaceful shoreline to
a "surreal" waterfall flowing from the sky to form a canyon in
the parched earth.
I invite you to share this journey with me
as I explore ways to express my feelings and ideas.
